| Tantric practices need an update for the modern world. |
Tantra's come a long way since the 5th century.
The lessons taught in the Rigveda reflect a deep and timeless wisdom that remains true even today.
However, the world's changes a LOT in the last 1500 years. Like any other knowledge or wisdom, the Rigveda is inextricably entwined with the culture that produced it.
Some things transcend all space and time, but as Joseph Campbell so patiently explained to us, the symbols that convey those eternal truths need occasional updating in order for us to continue to understand them.
Our world is so different in 2013 than it was in 455, a man living then could not begin to make sense of now, nor if we found our way back there, could we make sense of then.
What we need to do, like the generations before us is to take that eternal wisdom and recode it into symbols that makes sense now, today.
Our modern culture has very different needs than the medieval world did. Human beings are constantly evolving. Our sacred mythologies need to evolve with us.
Language is also constantly evolving. Today, the word "Tantra" has come to mean any kind of sacred sex. Some people decry this as a defilement or distortion of a specific belief system.
I don't think that's true at all, and I don't think that myself, or anyone else, that uses Tantra this new way means any disrespect to anyone. We've done what humans beings have always done and applied what words we already have to new situations as best they can.
This is how ALL language develops. Not all "adhesive bandages" are band-aids, but don't must of us call them band-aids anyway?
So when I talk about Tantra, here or on my fetish phone sex site, I am not talking about one specific discipline. I am using it as a general term for Sacred Sex of all kinds, and I firmly believe ALL sex is sacred, even the kinky stuff that involves whips and chains.
In fact, I kinda LIKE the whips and chains bit. That's why I specialize in fetish phone sex along with sacred kink and other such practices.
I believe activities, like bondage, flogging, or even fire play can all be used to help us take journeys of spiritual enlightenment.
All spokes lead to the center of the sacred wheel. Each has it's proper place in our modern world.
